My Approach

My approach is down-to-earth, authentic, compassionate, and client-centered.  I am deeply passionate about this field and I am committed to supporting my clients through their experiences. I draw on various therapeutic techniques, depending on the presenting issue and what would be a good fit for you. Some of these techniques include:

Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Techniques

Cognitive-behavioural techniques focus on how thoughts, behaviours, and emotions all influence one another. These techniques are aimed at identifying and challenging the negative or self-defeating thoughts/beliefs that one may have about themselves, others, or the world. Behavioural activation focuses on identifying and increasing activities/ behaviours that are meaningful to you, which can help to improve mood.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Skills & Mindfulness Techniques

DBT Skills include:  Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation & Interpersonal Effectiveness. Learning these skills can help one to effectively cope with stress, manage difficult or intense emotions, & improve overall wellbeing. Mindfulness (which lays the foundation for all other DBT skills) allows us to manage difficult thoughts, emotions & physical sensations by enhancing awareness & attentiveness to the moment.

Solution-Focused Techniques

The solution-focused approach is present- and future-oriented, and focuses on practical solutions, rather than on analyzing past problems. Together, we would work to identify realistic, acheivable, measurable & specific goals. Solution-focused techniques promote empowerment, and focus on one's strengths and ability to cope with the presenting issue.
