About

Hi, I'm Athena. I'm a Registered Social Worker/Therapist & I’ve been working in private practice in the Waterloo Region since 2016. I work with adults (18 & older) & provide mental health & supportive counselling.

I completed my Master of Social Work degree at the University of Toronto where I specialized in Mental Health & Health & completed the Collaborative Program in Addiction Studies (CoPAS). I completed my Honour's Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Guelph, where I majored in Psychology: Brain & Cognition.

I completed my clinical placements at the Centre for Addiction & Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto. While there, I worked with youth & adults struggling with a range of mental health issues, including clinical depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, early psychosis, & addiction.

Prior to completing my MSW, I worked in the nonprofit sector,  volunteered as part of a care-team for Hospice clients & their families,  & worked as a Research Assistant on various projects (focused on depression & its treatment, non-suicidal self-injury, suicide intervention & prevention, acculturation & mental health, and wellness initiatives for university students).

Aside from my work, I love spending time with my partner & our 2 young children, nature & being outdoors, reading, live music, road-tripping, & practicing mindfulness in everyday life.
